G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra

Here are a few of the look development concepts that I have done for the film G.I. Joe: rise of Cobra.
The goal of that sort of concept is to create a guide for the rest of the team allowing them to achieve the final on screen visual look for any given prop/set/creature...etc.
Here, after the diverse submarines basic 3D models had been approved by the client, my task was to make a 2D concept version of each of them which would be used as a reference in modeling/texturing/shading...
Sometimes I also had to put these same concepts in context (here under the ice Cap for example).

Harry potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Here are some of the sketches I've done back in 2007 for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. We were pitching at MPC on the inferies sequence at the end of the movie, involving Harry and Dumbledore fighting some sort of zombies... Virginie Bourdin was Art director for our Art Dpt at the time and we worked alongside my talented friend Olivier Pron .
The idea was to show how after all these years immerged at the bottom of this cursed lake they would end up being stuck together in the most grotesque and pitiful way...
Finally this particular sequence has been granted to ILM and MPC got all the quidditch sequences which are looking very cool :)

I am now doing some concept on the next Potter, but for Double Negative VFX this time.

Hope you guys like these sketches :) anyway.

Bonsai time

For those of you who have no idea what a Marimo is:

Marimo (Japanese: 毬藻 marimo), also known as Cladophora ball, Lake ball, or Moss Balls in English, is a species of filamentous green algae (Chlorophyta) found in a number of lakes in the northern hemisphere. A marimo is a rare growth form of the species where the algae grow into large green balls with a velvety appearance. Colonies of such balls are known only to form in Iceland, Japan and Estonia.

It is said that taking good care of the plant will make one's wishes come true...

More TV ad concepts...

And some more, aiming more at the female attributes this time :)
Hope you guys like it.

Concepts for a TV ad

I have done those ones while I was working at MPC (Moving Picture Company) for an "Aides explore" TV ad. Don't even know if it made it onto the television but I had a good laugh doing it :)

Patagonia cooking with chef Nicolas

Another sketch from my trip to Patagonia with a bit of photoshop on top.
This is Nicolas Lebugle who was skipper and cook on the boat. His cooking was great and we never ate the same dish twice in 2 weeks.
He also had a thing for cakes :)
What else do you need, great trip, great people and cakes!!

British museum

Went to the British museum yesterday with Sam (Rowan) and Simon, a fellow concept artist from Double Negative. It was during our lunch hour so didn't have much time but I could have stayed the whole day: there are so many amazing masks and artefacts in the African section that we visited. Also check out the amazing animal sculptures in "the Americas" section.

A tout prix!

Here is a promotional picture that I made for an old friend: Yann Danh. Not only a close friend of mine but also a very talented future film director. "A tout prix" is the title of his latest script so, fingers crossed for this one to make it onto the big screen ;)
Please don't mind the chosen font for the title, it's only temporary...

St James's Park

Went to St James's Park yesterday with Yuko, nice and sunny... today it's raining.

Who's that guy in the mirror?!

Self portrait...

Little Yuko...

Here is a sketch of my little Yuko sleeping.

Utrillo

Someone brought a magazine on the boat with an article about the painter Utrillo: this guy had such an interesting life... and face.

A day in Patagonia

Just came back from an amazing 2 weeks sailing trip to Patagonia: we passed the Cape Horn!
The scenery was great, the crew was fantastic as well as the food (you wouldn't believe how much meat you can eat while on a boat :) Fantastic experience despite the bad weather: rain, hail, wind, cold, and sometimes a bit of sun.
I landed in Buenos Aires to spend a couple of days with Roland my old friend (who's been leaving there for one and a half year) and we took a flight to Ushuaia where the boat "Vaihere" was waiting for us.
I am thinking now about going to Antarctica next time...
Here is a picture of Eric the Captain who used to swear against the weather every morning.

For those who can speak french, check this out: http://www.vaihere.com/va/
